Shortcut to decrease text size not working sometimes

macOS 10.14

Pages 7.2

Highlighting some text and then pressing cmd+- (ie pressing "-" while holding the "command" key) sometimes decreases the size of the text and sometimes not. Sometimes it will even decrease a certain amount but no more, for example, from 12 pt to 11 pt and then to 10 pt but no further. If instead of trying to use the keyboard shortcut I use the decrease text size button in the sidebar, it works - I can reduce the text size to whatever I want. Seems really strange as in Pages 4.3 this shortcut always worked without any issues. (Note: I haven't noticed any issues with using the keyboard shortcut to increase text size.)

I decrease/increase text size often in some of my documents, so this is a real pain. Any help appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I get a beep when I try to use the decrease text size shortcut without success, so Pages is receiving the command but objecting to it for some reason... (I have a late 2012, 27" iMac and standard Apple wireless keyboard. Everything is in very good condition and the keyboard seems to work perfectly.)

I have no issue in seemlessly, decreasing font size to 1pt, or expanding font size to 36 pts, when using the ⌘ - and ⌘ + keyboard shortcuts respectively in Pages v7.2. This is on a 2014 MacBook Air running Mojave 10.14 (18A391). Language is U.S. English.

If you are not using an Apple keyboard, or an aging Apple keyboard, that may factor in your issues with the preceding keyboard shortcuts.

You must click in the Pages document before the mentioned keyboard shortcuts will work. If instead, you have keyboard focus elsewhere, you will only receive an audible response, instead of the selected text responding to the keyboard shortcut.

Strangely it seems to be working properly at the moment. However, I am pretty confident that I was focused of the Pages doc when I got the beeps (which happened a number of times). For example, if I was not focused on Pages, why would I be able to (sometimes) decrease text size from 12 pt to 11 pt to 10 pt, but no further? (I use 12 pt and 9 pt mostly and hence would of pressed ⌘ - consecutively 3 times.)
