I need to know what generation my iPhone SE is but there is no model number listed. I have looked using the instructions but there is no additional information in settings.

If your iPhone SE is currently running iOS 18 – as shown in your tag line – it has to be either a 2nd or 3rd generation model. If it is, that means that it will be compatible with iOS 26 (the successor to iOS 18) when it comes out.
You apparently do not have a first-generation iPhone SE, as those cannot update past iOS 15.
On an iPhone SE (all generations) Settings > General > About will only show as iPhone SE.

When you tap Model Number, another 5 character number will appear. What is it?
A2275, A2296 and A2298 are all 2nd Generation SE
A2595, A1782 and A2783 are all 3rd Generation SE
FWIW … Apple’s own instructions and actual phone display … DO seem a bit convoluted.

One might normally expect that the Model Number would displayed alongside the “Model Number” label.

Go to Settings > General > About. You will find the model of your iPhone in there hope this helps!:)
Model Numbet should be available in Settings ➡️ General ➡️ About ➡️ Model. Tapping it should reveal the part number which identifies color, storage capacity and region of sale.

No, that would under "Model Name". Under "Model Number" you have 2 sets of Numbers, either one can be used to identify then specific generation of SE.
