Font issue - Canto plug-in displays an unreadable font on Adobe products

I purchased a new iMac a few months ago and installed InDesign along with Illustrator and Photoshop. When I added the Canto plug-in (Digital Asset Management), it now shows up displaying a weird unreadable font (see image). I've tried everything I can think of. I uninstalled and reinstalled both InDesign and the Canto plugin several times. My preferences in InDesign are set to the US Dictionary, Creative Cloud is set to download app in English (North America). I deleted preferences. This plug-in is completely unusable until I can figure it out. BTW - I'm running the exact same software and Mac OS on my Mac Book Pro and the plug-in displays fine there. This is definitely an issue with my iMac.

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Have you asked in the Adobe forums? Someone there may have had this problem and solved it. It may be harder to find anyone here (it’s just other users , not Apple in these forums) who has experience with this plugin.

There is a similar thread in the Adobe forums.

I'm guessing that this is the page for Canto Support.

Old Toad - This was super helpful! When I started in safe mode the problem was fixed but when I restarted my computer afterward, it returned. Reading further through the links you provided above, I realized it is an issue with my user account on my mac. I discovered I had three admin user account under my name. It most likely happened when I used the migration assistant to transfer all my files from my old computer. When I log in with a different user account and launch InDesign, the Canto app display normally. Now I need to figure out how to switch everything over from one user account to another. I really appreciate the post as I now know for sure what is causing it. I appreciate it.

You might not even need to switch user accounts.

If the problem occurs with one user account, but not with another, that suggests that the issue may lie with some file in the user-level Library folder – such as a preference file for Canto or InDesign, or maybe some font installed in the user-level Library folder rather than in the system-level one.

In Finder, if you hold down Option while selecting the Go account, a Library option will appear. Selecting opens a new Finder window to the normally-hidden user-level Library folder. Within the Preferences folder, if you see files whose names begin with com.canto. and that end with .plist, those are likely to be Canto preferences files.
