My Apple Watch Series 7 is not charging properly

Hi all,

I bought the most recent Watch that would work with my iPhone - a Series 7. It was new, in an unopened box. I have been charging it for 3 hours, 10 minutes, but it still will not run.

Right out of the box, when I pressed the side button, it showed a white Apple logo for about 2 seconds, after which the logo turned orange, then the screen went black. I put it on a charger. It would repeat the same display sequence about once every minute or so.

After about 3 hours of charging, the display sequence is a bit more elaborate:

1) White Apple logo for 17 seconds

2) gets brighter for 1/4 second

3) turns orange for 1/4 second

4) goes black for 3 seconds

5) White logo for 1/4 second

6) turns orange for 1/4 second

7) goes black for 3 seconds

repeats

I take this to mean that the watch is booting, but never gets enough power from the battery to finish the job.

This behavior has remained the same, now 3.5 hours on the charger. The watch gets pretty warm while charging, about 107 °F as measured at the watch face. I would assume the watch would turn off charging if it got too hot.

Is the 107 °F temperature doing any harm (or benefit) to the battery?

Just leave it charging?

Is there a way to prevent the constant booting to give the battery a chance to charge in peace?

Is it at all likely that this battery will be servicable?

Thanks,

Scott
