Which keyboard layout has '~' left of Z on a MacBook Pro?

Recently purchased a refurbished macbook pro (A2779)

I noticed that the '~ key is located before the Z key.

What keyboard layout is this? I tried al the QWERTY ones unsuccesfully.

Does somebody know what keyboard layout this uses?

Your keyboard is non-standard, you might want to return the machine if possible.

The key below escape and the key next to z are normal for some ISO keyboards sold in Europe, like International English. But the return key is not correct for that, it should be vertical. Instead it is like the ANSI keyboard sold in the US and Asia (which never has that extra key next to z).

The caps lock key seems to belong to a Thai keyboard (which should not have the extra key next to z).

Normally the input source called US should work correctly with this keyboard, unless the machine thinks it is ANSI instead of ISO. In that case, this note may help:

It’s more messed up than that. The left edge is wrong for the US and Asia, and the right edge is wrong for Europe, so it could never be sold as new anywhere. That someone has also thrown in one key from Thailand makes one wonder what other non-standard parts this machine might have and what its history has been.

Nobody is selling it as new. The OP said it was "refurbished".

Also, whatever the keys have printed on them is irrelevant and unrelated to what they will type. That is dependent on whatever input language and layout is set in System Settings.

If the presence of the ~ is bothersome a simple label can cover it up.

What I'm saying is having some weird characters in weird locations does not stop the keyboard from working however you want it to work.

Setting the input language to whatever they want, will make the key type whatever it's supposed to type, not the ~ character.

But to each their own.

That's totally correct, and this machine may well work just fine when the US input source is active, with what is printed on the keys completely matching what appears on the screen.

My concern would be that you have a machine that has been "refurbished" with a hardware keyboard that has never existed on any new or used Mac that I'm aware of. So you have to wonder what other unusual things might have been done to it, and whether you could ever resell it or trade it in.
