Re: How do I set QuickTime to autoplay on open?
Sorry. Have not found any way to autoplay files in QuickTime settings, or via Siri.
I do not know whether anyone else has found a way to autoplay ?
(In Safari, we can choose to autoplay media files on websites ...
seems however, that many may find that intrusive, or open to abuse by web-site operators)
Am grateful for the opportunities in place for choice and and control in QuickTime.

A search for Autoplay in the QuickTime Player User Guide produces a zero result.
As Apple users, like yourself, in the community, we have no way of knowing why Apple does what it does.
Seems to me, QuickTime provides useful controls, to give us control and choice.
ie: We choose how we want to proceed: "play a file on an AirPlay-enabled device,
display a video in a picture-in-picture window,
share a file
and change the playback speed".
Maybe view in full screen (or not).
loop the playback (or not).
We choose the timing and what we want to do: "play, pause, fast forward, or rewind"
(eg: timing "play" to suit other listeners / viewers / family within earshot / etc.)

IINA has a setting for autoplay. Unlike QuickTime Player, it can play almost any codec and it has many nice playback options. But one thing it does not seem to be able to do as well as QuickTime Player is to tonemap HDR, obviously because mpv does not yet properly support it.
