iMessage won’t send files on my iPhone 16 Pro

iMessage won’t send files

Lately I have a problem with iMessage. It won’t send attachments (voice messages, pictures, videos etc) no matter the connection.

Restarting the iPhone solves the problem temporarily but it returns again after a while.

I have tried disabling and re enabling iMessage, deleting and reinstalling the Messages app etc.

This happens both on cellular and WiFi, even on very good connections (600mbps down, 150mbps up etc).

I have spoken with Apple Support yesterday and we have scheduled a call for tomorrow to recreate the problem and collect diagnostics.

I have a few friends that this does happen to them even for more than a year now. For me this started happening for about a week.

I have 500GB+ of free space and 1TB+ of iCloud storage space.

Does this happen on anyone else?

Hello Simos 805, it also happens to me and since April 1, 2025. I opened files but each time the counselor makes me do things that I have already done "1000 times". Lately, they collected logs and a video of my screen during the bug. I was supposed to be called yesterday May 12th but I didn’t get a call so I called and I need to get an answer on Saturday, May 17th. My problem is in the audio uploads of iMessages. I can send an audio message (after restart) but the second audio message does not start and there is a blue line that remains frozen exactly 10 minutes before telling me that there is an error. If I ask for the redirection of the message, it does not send. I have to restart the iPhone 16 pro to send the message.

I also listened to the advice of TheLittles in his message by sending a feeback to apple. It’s very long and I’m disappointed that iOS 18.5 didn’t solve the problem we have.

Look here, we are not the only ones :

This is the most common problem for this type of bug. Unfortunately, we have to wait for a next version which, I really hope, will correct this defect that has been going on for too long now. It's exhausting !!

I have had this problem since April 01 and my daughter too. I asked the rest of my family not to put version 18.4 until it works on my side.

I think so, since version 18.4. Those who have the problem of sending voice messages are those who have installed the 18.4.

What I did to not have a problem (because I think I tried everything to solve the bug but in vain): I restarted my iPhone by resetting the network settings then I deleted the voice messages that were blocked then I deleted them permanently through the folder that keeps the deleted messages for about thirty days. Now, I use iMessages but ESPECIALLY WITHOUT SENDING VOCALS. Sending photos, screenshots, pdf, work very well. The rule for the moment that I promised myself is to no longer send vocals to avoid blocking the rest of my messages.

If I have an absolute need to send a voice message, I do it with WhatsApp (all my correspondents have this application). When Apple has fixed the bug we have, I will use voice messages with iMessages again. The transcription of our voice into text creates this bug since 18.4 (so April 1st). I tried on an iPhone 11 and 16 pro max: it's the same bug. I also asked my operator to replace my SIM card. No solution works at the moment 😔

They called me from Apple support again, and asked me to reproduce the problem once again and send some diagnostic data and screen recordings.

I’ve done all of them successfully and I’m waiting once again…

I’m pretty sure at this point that the problem has to do with voice messages and not photos or videos or other files, because I have let many days to pass without sending any voice message, and photos/videos are sending just fine.

If I try to send 2-3 voice messages tho, the problem happens again and then I can’t send photos or videos neither until the next restart.

Also the iPhone feels warmer and the battery drains faster until the restart.
