Horizontal Lines on Screen of iMac, 24", 2021

Display vertex surface heating to scorching 55°C (22° more than device normal), another symptom for this issue. Apple technical support is not helpful in explaining why this happens after 28 months of normal use.

I have documented the overheating anomaly in M1 iMac (horizontal lines-issue) here:

Why would I get a display replacement without an explanation? This is not good. Considering this I am thinking of selling the other iMac I have at home, as there is no explanation provided.

Not at this time. Keep tabs on this Apple site, Apple Service Programs - Apple Support, to see if and when a repair program is initiated.

Not good enough Apple!

My last iMac lasted 11years and was still going at the end.... My M1 only lasted 3 years!

Bought my M1 iMac last 2022. Used it regularly from 2022-Mid 2024. Have used it approximately 10-20x since Aug 2024 since i have moved out. While surfing the net, sudden horizontal lines appeared. Then began to shift. It distorted some of the display. Its been giving me headaches. Searched around and found multiple threads of the same issue. Also noticed that the left side of the monitor was also hot to touch. And it was only the left side that was hot, around the area where the first line began. I have yet to go to the authorized apple reseller as it only occurred a few hours ago. But have now sent feedback. Will update once i have some news. Hopefully this gets covered.

I had this problem, now the screen doesn't work anymore, the screen has gone black at the bottom, you can't see anything... it's unusable now. This is called "planned obsolescence", it's not acceptable by the Apple brand.

This must surely be an extended Apple service program.

You'll have to check the website I posted in my last reply to see if and when Apple will have a service/repair for the M1 iMac screen.

If you have to bite the bullet and get a new Mac I strongly recommend getting a Mac Mini M4 with a 3rd party 4k monitor. A Mac Mini M4 with 15 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD with a 32" LG 4k monitor w/speakers is $1418 w/tax which is $650 less than a similarly configured new 24" iMac.

Same issue with my iMac M1, after two years of usage. Horizontal lines mostly from top to bottom, and flickering screen. Sometimes the upper rim corner gets too hot to touch. I sent feedback already. I'll take my Mac to service as soon as I can.

The problem has made me decide against a new Mac.

Just ran into this issue on my M1 iMac, purchased in July 2021 in Malaysia. Took it to Apple and was quoted a very expensive repair cost. No compromise, no goodwill offer. Apple wasn’t willing to help at all. Really disappointing.
