music sound jumps to phone call sound when connected to carplay

So for the past year I have had issues whereby my iphone12 will connect to CarPlay wirelessly and via USB, 1-2 minutes later the music audio will switch to the cars 'telephone sound' (so the settings for calls through your car, so very low and low quality). After 1-2 minutes of this it then jumps back to usual music sound. I've only got this through my phone across my BMW 1 Series, my wifes Nissan and then more recently, my new Audi A3. All of which work perfectly fine when using my wife's iPhone 11 Pro... I've reset the phone to factory settings the lot and nothing appears to be solving the problem, even more so lately it is now getting worse! The sound will randomly jump to the 'telephone sound' mid-song even after its done so at the start of the journey. Now when it happens within my wifes Nissan it changes to 'Smartphone' - my phone is and has never been connected to the cars built-in bluetooth. When it does it within my Audi it changes to the same volume settings on the dashboard as it does for when you use SIRI (voice command sound)...

Anyone got any ideas? Not even 2 years old and not had this trouble on my previous iPhone XR when using within the BMW...

Hello Bootsy25,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. Have you attempted to forget your iPhone, then reconnect? Also when you are listening to music, are you using Apple Music or another service?

In the mean time this resource may help troubleshoot the issue.

If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support

"Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. If your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS, follow these steps — checking CarPlay after each step:

  1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
    • If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
    • If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > Wi-Fi and Settings > Bluetooth.

  1. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
  2. Restart your iPhone and your car.
  3. Make sure that Siri is on.
  4. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
  5. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
  6. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information."

Cheers!

Hi,

Thanks for replying. I am only using AppleMusic and nothing else. All vehicles are only connected to my phone via USB and have not been connected to the factory Bluetooth of the cars.

I have tried all of the suggestions you have raised and still nothing. Nissan (2018 model) only updated firmware in the car 2 months ago at service and the Audi (2019) only last month when bought, so nothing needed with them. It appears it’s only when MY phone is connected - as mentioned above in my post, my wife’s iPhone using same connections and AppleMusic, never has this problem!

I’ve been hanging out for Apple to fix within an iOS update, but getting to the point now where I don’t think it’s an issue globally with a select few! It was fine when it would just happen at the very start of connection/journey, but now that it is happening randomly when driving after a while, it’s becoming frustrating and obviously going to get worse!

Thanks
